Graphs of Conic Sections

In this example, the graph of a hyperbola centered on the x-axis is shown.
Review of conic sections:
Conic sections are known as quadratic relations. Graphs of conic sections are often not functions. In such cases, the graph of a conic section does not pass the vertical line test. For example, the graph of a circle does not pass the vertical line test.
In this set of conic sections, we review examples of the different conic sections, including circles, parabola, hyperbolas, and ellipses. In each case the equation of the conic section is shown in standard form. The graph of the conic section is shown. Given the equation of the conic section, we identify its key attributes, including the center and major and minor axes.

The library of Math Tutorials is a comprehensive collection of worked-out solutions to common math problems. This overcomes a common limitation of most textbooks: the handful of worked-out examples for a given concept. We provide the full array of examples and solutions, allowing students to identify patterns among the solutions, in order to aid concept retention. We also have quizzes for many of these topics.
